Dqae Qare San Lodge - Accommodation

San Lodge

The main Lodge has seven rooms, all en-suite and beautifully decorated with traditional San artwork and murals. All rooms have mosquito netting and both solar lighting and solar hot water. Five rooms have a double bed and a single bed, one has two single beds and the last has one single bed. The rooms are usually offered on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Our meals are substantial including a full English breakfast with yoghurt and cereals and a three course dinner. We strive to offer food of a high quality including local produce such as game meat along with San specials like Bushman truffles. A cheaper, non-catered option is available on the rooms although no additional catering facilities are available for guests. All rooms share a patio overlooking a floodlit waterhole for game. The main Lodge includes a delightful thatched Lapa area that serves as a lounge and a dining area. The Lapa overlooks a floodlit waterhole that attracts large numbers of antelope.

Our extensive campsite is situated a short distance from the Lodge under large Kalahari thorn trees. There are ten individual campsites with traditional San grass windbreak enclosures and including a circular fire pit with barbeque (braai) facilitities. There is also a covered area available to guests and large groups. The ablutions have solar water heaters. Guests at the campsite are welcome to join us at the Lodge for meals by prior arrangement and to enjoy the Lodge facilities.

San Village

The San people have contructed a traditional San village a short walk from the main Lodge. The village was carefully selected and designed to show the old ways of the San with small grass huts, grass windbreaks and a central dance area. We offer a comprehensive San experience to guests at the village (see San Activities) and our guides also offer a cultural tour of the village where they give a presentation on the history of the San and the culture of hunter gatherer people.

Swimming Pool

Adjacent to the main Lodge is a large enclosed swimming pool with a thatched bar and also overlooking the waterhole. Outside catering at the pool can also be provided on request.

Dance Arena

Adjacent to the campsite is the amphitheatre style circular dance arena that can accommodate up to 1000 people. This is the home of the Kuru Dance Festival, an annual event to celebrate San culture with San groups from throughout Southern Africa. It is available for large functions on request.
